Diaper rash – Remedies and Prevention tips.

Diaper rash is painful but common skin rash on your baby’s bottom especially in infants. It thrives in warm, moist environments and the rash may cause the skin to be scaly, bumpy and red. These rashes can look like red splotches on your baby’s bottom, or red scales in the genital area.

Remedies : 

Always use alcohol and fragrance free wipes for babies or wet washcloth or rinse skin with warm water to gently cleanse baby’s skin for each diaper change session. If the rash is severe, use a squirt bottle to cleanse without rubbing But be gentle do not scrub the skin. Some babies skin is more prone to rash, If needed apply a layer of safe yet effective zinc oxide based diaper rash cream on the entire diaper area at each diaper change.

If your baby has more sensitive skin and needs daily ointment you can choose petroleum based ointment. And Don’t put on the diaper too tight. better air circulation speeds healing.

You can use baby moisturizer on a regular basis, It will ensure the protective barrier of babies skin remains intact, protected from germs, hydrated, clean and a little rash cream may very well be what baby’s skin needs.If the problem still persists, you should immediately contact a doctor.

Prevention:

A few simple remedies can help to decrease the chances of developing a diaper rash. The less time your baby’s bottom is trapped in a wet diaper, the less likely she’ll be to get diaper rash. Alleviate extra moisture before putting diaper, after each diaper change, air dry or gentle pat dry baby’s skin with a clean towel. Never scrub while cleaning, Scrubbing can further irritate the skin.

Thumb rule – Change diaper every 2-3 hours for infant and soiled diaper immediately. Choose diaper brand wisely, before finalizing please give them a try and go with a more comfortable brand for your little one’s sensitive skin. Few pointers to remember before finalizing the brand few pointers to be considered are right size, wetness indicator, air channels, softness, umbilical cord notch for newborn, Flexible waistband, ,Magic Gel,Extra absorb channels.

Ensure your wipes are stored properly  at room temperature with the lid or seal tightly secured and out of baby’s reach.  Careful care when changing your baby’s diaper can help prevent diaper rash.Keep moving with diaper sizes as your little one is growing, Don’t over tighten diapers. Tight diapers can also cause itching, irritation at the waist or thighs. It prevents airflow into the diaper area, which sets up a moist environment favorable to diaper rashes. Be sure to wash your hands after each diaper change session.
